Damaso Padron began producing cigars for his family 125 years ago, unaware that he was establishing a tobacco dynasty. Damaso’s preferred tobacco-growing location was Cuba’s famed Pinar del Rio region, where he produced some of the world’s finest tobacco.
In 1964, Jose Padron, the son of Damaso, took over the cigar company and advanced the cigar-making process utilizing the same Cuban generational skills. At the time, many believed that Nicagrugan tobacco was too potent for the market, but the Padrons carved out a niche that no other cigar manufacturer was filling.
Padron is in Charge
After all these years, the Padron family is still in charge of the company. Importantly, the Padrons are one of the few remaining families with complete control over their cigar manufacture. Most cigar manufacturers subcontract their brands, which will eventually lead to quality difficulties. Not the Padron, though, and this is the reason why, after all these years, the Padrons remain on top.
